Safety

Precautions matter as much as promises.

A credible technology is judged as much by how openly it discusses risk as by the benefits it claims. Here’s photobiomodulation’s safety profile, plainly, alongside the standard precautions any responsible user should be aware of.

Non-Ionising, Non-Thermal Light

PBM uses non-ionising light — meaning the photon energy involved is insufficient to remove electrons from atoms or damage DNA directly, unlike ionising radiation such as X-rays. It’s also non-thermal: VITARA devices are dosed specifically to avoid a clinically significant temperature rise, unlike heat-based infrared therapies.

No UV Component

VITARA devices emit no ultraviolet light, eliminating the photoageing and skin-damage risks specifically associated with UV exposure.

General Safety Profile

The clinical safety of PBM at appropriate doses is well documented. Where adverse events are reported, they’re primarily linked to improper use — most commonly excessive dose or inappropriate proximity — rather than an inherent hazard of the therapy itself. A systematic review of oncologic safety in aesthetic skin applications found no clinical trial evidence linking correctly-dosed PBM with new or recurrent malignancy. As with any bright light source, avoid looking directly into the panel while in use.

Who Should Take Extra Care

As with any wellness technology, a few groups should seek advice before use:

  • Active malignancy: PBM should not be applied directly over a known active tumour without specialist medical guidance.
  • Photosensitive epilepsy: Anyone with a history of photosensitive epilepsy should seek medical advice before treatment.

Our Approach to Safety

We’d rather set out the full documented safety profile and the specific precautions that apply, than offer a reassuring one-line claim. Anyone considering this technology deserves the complete picture.
